French practice AWP has remodelled a water-treatment method plant outdoors Paris to reveal its industrial processes to the public.
Situated beside the Seine to the south of the city, the Évry Water-Treatment Plant was 1st established in the 1970s. Following a design competitors in 2003, AWP designed a new masterplan for the web site, including 4 new buildings and a surrounding landscape of trees and gardens that will all be accesible to guests.
Each and every of the buildings has a prefabricated concrete framework, with timber screens wrapping the upper sections to soften the industrial look of the facades. These screens surround big external ducts, as well as a amount of balcony corridors.
The smallest of the 4 buildings functions as an entrance and exhibition centre for tourists, who will be ready to tour the plant when it opens to the public later on this year.
We’;ve featured a handful of water-treatment method plants made by architects on Dezeen, such as a combined garden and plant in Germany and a floating island that purifies river water.

Here is a undertaking description from AWP:
Water-Remedy Plant, Évry
Building and renovation of 4 industrial buildings and a water park
Located on the Seine river front, near to a key metropolitan route (the Francilienne), Évry water depuration plant is a key infrastructural component that is at after symbolic and extremely functional, reflecting environmental, technical and urban considerations.
The very first plant was built in the 70s and the aim of this renovation is to improve and optimise its capacity. The urban dimension of the gear has guided us in direction of a technique of opening-up and hospitality. Previously rejected and hidden, this infrastructure is now relocated on the urban scene, so as to have a public position and to become symbolic. Routinely open to visitors, this products will grow to be each a landmark and an experiential water filtering park.
The formal method consists of a main axis along the river in which gardens, new buildings and tanks are positioned. Buildings will be renovated and their façades completely redesigned as urban scale filters.
